British International School Gdańsk

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) at BISG

BISG is the only non-public school in the Tri-City area that offers high school students the opportunity to complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP).

The IB Programme is recognized worldwide and opens doors to prestigious universities both in Poland and abroad.

Pre-IB Programme Grades 9–10

Our high school offers a two-year preparatory stage, commonly known as Pre-IB, in Grades 9 and 10 (equivalent to Grades I and II of the Polish High School).

During this time, students follow BISG’s original curriculum, which combines the Polish core curriculum with the IB teaching philosophy and methodology.

The goal of the Pre-IB stage is to develop key competences essential for success in the IB Diploma Programme (Grades 11–12):

  • Critical and analytical thinking
  • Effective communication and collaboration
  • Social skills and self-management
  • Learning through inquiry and reflection

Conceptual and Interdisciplinary Learning

Learning in the Pre-IB classes is based on conceptual and project-based work, encouraging students to think critically, collaborate, and find creative solutions.

Students participate in:

  • STEM projects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
  • Interdisciplinary humanities projects, combining history, geography, and social studies
  • MAD project (Music, Art, Drama) – developing creativity, artistic expression, and cultural awareness
  • School performances – students take part as authors, composers, actors, dancers, singers, and stage technicians; their original performances are presented in professional theatres in Gdańsk
  • SLAP (Student Library Assistant Programme) – promoting reading culture, event organization, and teamwork; students lead literary projects, interviews, and school-wide initiatives promoting literature
  • Digital Citizenship – developing responsible and safe digital behaviour
  • Sports projects – intra- and interschool sports activities promoting healthy competition, integration, and teamwork
  • Individual Project – In Grade 10, preceding the IB program, students undertake their own independently chosen project under the guidance of a supervisor, developing research skills, creativity, autonomy, long-term planning, and presentation abilities. The project allows students to explore topics they are passionate about and prepares them for similar projects in the IB program. Students present the results of their work to an audience of peers, teachers, and parents.

Learning in Action

Education at BISG extends far beyond the classroom. Pre-IB and IB students take part in numerous educational and integration trips, including:

  • Green School and White School (skiing and snowboarding trips)
  • Language trips to Spain, Germany, and France – depending on the chosen foreign language
  • Euroweek (Leadership Course) – a week-long workshop developing leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
  • STEM Fair and STEM Project Week – interdisciplinary scientific events
  • MAD Week – a celebration of music, art, and theatre
  • Career Counselling Programme – meetings with professionals and study visits, e.g., at the District Court in Gdańsk under the supervision of Judge Dorota Zabłudowska

As part of social and artistic projects, students perform on professional theatre stages.

BISG also collaborates with the University of Gdańsk, allowing students to participate in academic workshops and research projects.
