British International School Gdańsk- our school name embraces our special approach to languages which are our educational DNA.

BISG unique language learning offer is tailored to our students and represents:

  • British character of our school
  • International aspect
  • Localisation of our school – the beautiful city of Gdańsk in Poland

1. English at BISG

English is the medium of instruction across the school. The teaching and learning of English are differentiated in order to cater for the different ability levels of our learners.

We organize English Additional Lessons – EAL, especially in Lower Primary when children acquire languages with amazing facility.

2. Modern Foreign Languages at BISG

At BISG, we believe that learning languages is not just about acquiring communication skills, but about opening doors to the world, embracing new perspectives, and fostering global citizenship.

From the earliest years in preschool, our students begin their journey into Spanish, French or German, laying the foundation for linguistic fluency and cultural awareness that will stay with them for life.

Through a range of immersive experiences—such as cultural festivals, international trips and interactive performances—our students not only learn to speak in Spanish, French, and German, but also they become effective communicators, open-minded individuals, and compassionate global citizens. These hands-on opportunities encourage them to apply their language skills in real-
world contexts, fostering critical thinking and a broader understanding of the world
around them.

In conclusion, we work hard to inspire a lifelong passion for languages and prepare our students to thrive in a multicultural world.

- Some of our MFL events and activities:

International Food Festival

This is one of our school’s most popular events, celebrating global culinary traditions
and our international-mindedness. Each year, the festival raises thousands of zlotys,
which are fully donated to charitable causes chosen by our students and school
community, reflecting our commitment to positive global impact.

MFL Immersion Trips

Every year, our trips to Germany, France, and Spain provide students with authentic
immersive language experiences. These trips allow students to practise their
language skills in real-world settings, reinforcing the idea that learning extends
beyond the classroom.

Language Certificate Preparation Clubs: DELE, DELF, Goethe-Zertifikat

Our department also hosts clubs that prepare students for the most prestigious

language certificates in Spanish, French and German. In these clubs, students
receive dedicated support, helping them achieve recognized language proficiency
certifications. These certificates enhance academic credentials and empower
students to pursue international opportunities in the future.

Music and Poetry Recital

This event is an inspiring showcase of linguistic talents, where students perform in
various languages, celebrating multilingualism as a key to global engagement. This
event built students’ confidence in their language skills, reinforcing the idea that the
arts can play a powerful role in language acquisition.

International Week

During our International Week, students, by actively participating, explore diverse
countries through presentations, lively quiz competitions, crafts, etc., filled with fun
and educational facts. This event not only broadened students’; global perspectives
but also encouraged curiosity and inquiry.

Parent Language Course

In keeping with our commitment to building a strong, inclusive community, the MFL
Department also offers language courses for parents. These courses foster an
environment where parents can engage with new languages and cultures alongside
their children. The course strengthens ties within our school community and
encourages a shared appreciation for the value of multilingualism.
