British International School Gdańsk

Welcome to BISG Upper Primary

Our Curriculum

In Classes 4-6, we follow the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), and in Classes 7-8, we implement the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC). These internationally recognized curricula blend a British approach to education while preparing students to thrive as global citizens. They allow us to design exciting, interdisciplinary projects across Humanities, Modern Foreign Languages, STEM, Arts, and Drama, which are integrated into the curriculum for each year group. At BISG, we combine the strengths of a British international education with the standards of the Polish school system, ensuring our students build a strong foundation as international learners in Poland.

At BISG we match the best of a British education with the requirements of the Polish school. Our students receive a solid foundation as international primary students studying in Poland.

Student Council

F

rom Classes 6 to 8, students have the opportunity to join the Student Council, a committee of democratically elected student representatives.

The Student Council provides a valuable introduction to politics while also offering students experience in teamwork, communication, collaboration, and community building. It empowers students to take on socially important roles and work for the greater good.

Councillors:

  • Act as the voice of the student body, representing their peers.
  • Boost school spirit by organizing events such as movie nights, discos, bake sales, and special celebrations.
  • Facilitate school-wide initiatives and events, ensuring smooth coordination and engagement.
  • Work for the benefit of others by promoting kindness, inclusivity, and school values.
  • Take part in community service and fundraising efforts for charity, making a positive impact beyond the school.

Being a councillor is about leadership, responsibility, and making a difference in the school and the wider community.

Modern Foreign Languages

BISG students can choose one of three languages as a second foreign language: Spanish, French or German.

Students continue to learn the same foreign language through to class 8. Lessons are held three times a week in class 4-6 and twice a week in class 7-8.

Learning a second foreign language at BISG is consistent with the Polish core curriculum, but due to the greater number of hours that we offer, students acquire their additional language with greater fluency, depth and understanding.
