Modern Foreign Languages - MFL
Spanish
Spoken by over 500 million people across 20 countries, making it one of the most widely spoken languages globally, as well as being an official language of international organizations such as the United Nations and the European Union.
French
A global language of diplomacy, culture, and education, spoken across five continents and also an official language of the United Nations and the European Union.
German
The most spoken native language in Europe and a leader in fields like science and business.
At BISG, we believe that learning languages is not just about acquiring communication skills, but about opening doors to the world, embracing new perspectives, and fostering global citizenship.
From the earliest years in preschool, our students begin their journey into Spanish, French or German, laying the foundation for linguistic fluency and cultural awareness that will stay with them for life.
Through a range of immersive experiences—such as cultural festivals, international trips and interactive performances—our students not only learn to speak in Spanish, French, and German, but also they become effective communicators, open-minded individuals, and compassionate global citizens.
These hands-on opportunities encourage them to apply their language skills in real-world contexts, fostering critical thinking and a broader understanding of the world around them.
In conclusion, we work hard to inspire a lifelong passion for languages and prepare our students to thrive in a multicultural world.
Erik Valencia López – Head of Modern Languages Department
Learning an additional modern foreign language begins in preschool, twice a week. In class 1-3, MFL lessons are hold twice a week too. Students continue to learn the same foreign language through to class 8 and lessons are held three times a week (in class 4-6) or twice a week (in class 7-8). Learning a second foreign language at BISG is consistent with the Polish core curriculum, but due to the greater number of hours that we offer, students acquire their additional language with greater fluency, depth and understanding.
L
anguage classes are conducted by qualified and experienced teachers, including native speakers who focus upon the development of all language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Lessons are engaging and effective through the use of a variety of creative approaches.
When working with children, we focus on the individualization of teaching – working at different language levels. We provide special support to pupils who, for various reasons, have started learning a foreign language later than their peers.
International Food Festival
This is one of our school's most popular events, celebrating global culinary traditions and our international-mindedness. Each year, the festival raises thousands of zlotys, which are fully donated to charitable causes chosen by our students and school community, reflecting our commitment to positive global impact.
MFL Immersion Trips
Every year, our trips to Germany, France, and Spain provide students with authentic immersive language experiences. These trips allow students to practise their language skills in real-world settings, reinforcing the idea that learning extends beyond the classroom.
DELE, DELF, Goethe-Zertifikat - Language Certificate Preparation Clubs
Our department also hosts clubs that prepare students for the most prestigious language certificates in Spanish, French and German. In these clubs, students receive dedicated support, helping them achieve recognized language proficiency certifications. These certificates enhance academic credentials and empower students to pursue international opportunities in the future.
