Library Overview
The BISG Library is an essential teaching and learning hub designed to foster a love of reading, research, and inquiry. It provides a variety of collaborative learning spaces, access to modern technology, and a carefully curated collection of fiction, non-fiction, magazines, newspapers, and electronic resources. These resources are selected to support both curricular and co-curricular programs while promoting international-mindedness. The library plays a crucial role in developing lifelong learners, supporting students in their academic journey and encouraging curiosity and global awareness.
Library Mission
The BISG Library is committed to inspiring a passion for reading and learning by offering students access to diverse resources and an inviting environment. We believe that the simplest way to nurture literacy is to show students that reading is enjoyable. Our approach centers on finding books that engage children, empowering them to read freely and independently. By doing so, we foster a love of learning, a joy for reading, and a lifelong pursuit of knowledge.
Library Objectives
The BISG Library’s objectives are designed to align with both the BISG and IB mission statements, focusing on creating inquisitive, knowledgeable, and compassionate individuals who contribute to a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. These objectives include:
- Creating a Positive Learning Environment: We strive to provide a welcoming, stimulating, and supportive environment that helps students reach their full potential. This includes access to resources for class-related research, independent inquiry, and personal exploration.
- Promoting Literacy and Lifelong Learning: By offering a variety of reading initiatives, we encourage students to become independent, lifelong learners. We aim to inspire students to engage in independent reading and to develop a love for learning beyond the classroom.
- Supporting the Curriculum: The library ensures that students have access to materials that are aligned with the BISG curriculum, promoting inquiry-based learning and fostering the development of critical readers who are prepared for lifelong learning.
- Encouraging Critical Thinking and Research Skills: We focus on developing students’ ability to access, evaluate, and ethically use information. Library staff provide support in the development of research skills that empower students to think critically.
- Supporting Multilingualism and Cultural Awareness: The library promotes intercultural understanding and respect through a diverse range of materials that reflect various cultures and languages. We also work to encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Collaborating with Educators: The library collaborates with teachers to integrate library resources into classroom curricula, supporting instructional units and helping to enhance students’ educational experiences.
